A practical guide to airports, getting around and choosing a comfortable home base on Ireland’s Dingle Peninsula.

A home base for your group

More space than separate hotel rooms.

Milltown Cottage is a private four-bedroom vacation rental for up to eight guests. It combines the flexibility American families and groups expect—two bathrooms, a full kitchen, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi and free parking—with an easy walk into one of Ireland’s most memorable small towns.

The cottage has a two-night minimum stay. Pets are permitted by prior arrangement for an additional fee, and longer-stay rates may be available by email.

Getting to Dingle

Choose the airport that suits your itinerary.

Flight schedules and routes change seasonally, so confirm current options before booking.

Kerry Airport

Kerry Airport is the closest airport to Milltown Cottage. It is a useful option when connecting through another Irish or European airport.

Shannon or Cork

Shannon and Cork are convenient regional gateways for southwest Ireland. Shannon is often especially useful for travelers combining Dingle with the Wild Atlantic Way.

Dublin Airport

Dublin offers the broadest range of international flights. Many visitors turn the cross-country drive into part of a longer Ireland itinerary.

Driving and transport

What American visitors should know.

A little advance planning makes the journey much easier.

Will I need a rental car?

A car is useful for beaches, Slea Head Drive and the wider peninsula. Reserve an automatic transmission in advance if you do not drive a manual. Ireland drives on the left.

Can I manage without a car?

The walk from the cottage into Dingle town takes approximately 15 minutes. Bus Éireann Route 275 connects Dingle with Tralee, but a car gives you more flexibility for rural sights.

Which airport is closest?

Kerry Airport is the closest. Shannon and Cork are also useful regional options, while Dublin has the widest selection of international routes.

What should I pack for Irish power outlets?

Ireland uses Type G three-pin plugs. Bring a suitable adapter and check that personal electrical devices support the local voltage before use.

Is the property close to restaurants and pubs?

Yes. Dingle town is approximately a 15-minute walk away, with restaurants, cafés, shops, traditional pubs and the harbour.

How do I ask about a longer stay?

Email michealsheehy@gmail.com with your proposed dates, group size and length of stay.
